Decades later, in 1998, the world's press descended on the home of the 77-year-old croatian in argentina, as he faced trial for the crimes he committed during the war. The case sparked deep divisions in his homeland, as the horrific deeds he was accused of cast a stain not only on the newly created country of croatia, but also on the roman catholic church.
