In the remote mountains of Bhutan, a group of Buddhist monks prepares for a sacred festival by engaging in a traditional dance that serves as a form of moving meditation. Under the guidance of their elder, the monks learn to transcend their individual identities and connect with the divine, aiming to purify their minds and liberate both themselves and their audience from suffering. As they practice, they also learn to create intricate ritual cakes, known as torma, which are offered to spirits to remove obstacles and accumulate merit. This ancient tradition, deeply rooted in the teachings of Padmasambhava, is a vital part of Bhutanese culture, and the monks are dedicated to preserving it for future generations, ensuring that the dance continues to serve as a powerful spiritual practice.
