The New Frontier
The Gaia mission, launched in 2013, has revolutionized our understanding of the Milky Way by creating an incredibly detailed and accurate map of over 1.7 billion stars. By measuring the positions, distances, motions, colors, and temperatures of these stars, Gaia provides a comprehensive view of our galaxy's structure and history. This mission, led by the European Space Agency, has not only cataloged stars but also provided valuable data on asteroids and quasars, fundamentally changing how we perceive our place in the universe.
