King George IV, the flamboyant and indulgent "playboy" Prince Regent, reigned from 1820 to 1830. As regent for his mentally ill father, George indulged in lavish spending, extravagant parties, and scandalous affairs, earning him the title "First Gentleman of England." His extravagant lifestyle and unconventional behavior alienated many but also made him a popular figure with the masses. George's towering debts and reckless spending raised concerns, which he addressed by implementing financial reforms to stabilize the country's finances. Despite his excesses, George also had a keen interest in the arts and architecture, patronizing numerous artists and projects, including the rebuilding of Buckingham Palace.
