The three Edwards who reigned over England during the Plantagenet dynasty were Edward I (1272-1307), Edward II (1307-1327), and Edward III (1327-1377). Edward I, known as "Longshanks" for his tall stature, was a successful warrior king who conquered Wales and attempted to subdue Scotland. Edward II, his son, was a weak and ineffectual ruler who was deposed and murdered by his wife, Isabella, and her lover, Roger Mortimer. Edward III, Edward II's son, was a powerful and ambitious king who led England to victory in the Hundred Years' War against France. His reign saw the rise of the English Parliament and the establishment of a strong monarchy.
