What Really Happened to John Gotti

John Gotti rose to infamy as the head of the Gambino crime family, orchestrating the 1985 assassination of then-boss Paul Castellano. He cultivated a public image as a Teflon Don, evading conviction for years despite numerous investigations. However, his reign ended in 1992 when he was convicted on racketeering and murder charges, largely due to the testimony of his underboss, Salvatore "Sammy the Bull" Gravano. Gotti spent the remainder of his life in prison, where he eventually died of throat cancer in 2002, marking the end of an era for the American Mafia.
