Boudicca: Queen of the Iceni
In the first century AD, the Iceni queen Boudicca led a massive, desperate uprising against the Roman occupation of Britain. Her forces, a coalition of several Celtic tribes, launched a series of devastating attacks on major Roman settlements, including the provincial capital of Camulodunum, which was burned to the ground. This fierce resistance, fueled by the brutal treatment of the Iceni by Roman authorities, posed a significant threat to Roman control in the region, forcing the Roman governor Suetonius Paulinus to abandon the city and confront the rebellion in a decisive battle.
