Donnie Brasco was the pseudonym of Joseph D. Pistone, an undercover FBI agent who infiltrated the Bonanno crime family in New York City in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His mission was to gather evidence on the family's criminal activities and eventually bring down its leadership. Brasco spent six years undercover, gaining the trust of high-ranking mobsters and becoming a trusted member of the family. His undercover work led to the arrest and conviction of over 200 members of the Bonanno family, including its boss, Philip "Rusty" Rastelli. Brasco's story has been immortalized in the critically acclaimed 1997 film "Donnie Brasco," starring Johnny Depp as Brasco and Al Pacino as Lefty Ruggiero, the mobster who helped introduce him into the family.
