Gender-based poverty, a pervasive global issue, disproportionately affects women and girls due to systemic gender inequalities. In Uganda, where poverty rates are high, two remarkable women, Joyce and Fatuma, are fighting to empower women through innovative initiatives. Joyce founded the Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) organization, providing training and support to women's groups in rural areas, while Fatuma established AMwA's Kibera office in Nairobi, offering vocational training and microfinance programs. Through their tireless efforts, these women are not only alleviating poverty but also challenging gender norms and advocating for women's rights, creating a ripple effect that uplifts entire communities and drives positive social change.
