In the spring of 1943, the Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto rose in armed revolt against the Nazis rather than be sent to extermination camps. Though they knew they could not defeat the German army, they chose to die fighting for freedom and human dignity rather than perish passively in the gas chambers.
