John Quincy Adams - 6th President of the United States

John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States, served from 1825 to 1829. A son of the second president, John Adams, he held various diplomatic positions before becoming Secretary of State under President James Monroe. As president, Adams focused on internal improvements, such as the construction of roads and canals, and supported the American System of protective tariffs and a national bank. He also negotiated the Adams-OnĂ­s Treaty with Spain, which secured Florida for the United States. Despite his accomplishments, Adams was defeated in his bid for re-election by Andrew Jackson. After leaving office, Adams represented Massachusetts in the House of Representatives for 17 years, where he became a leading voice against slavery. He is remembered as a dedicated public servant and a man of principle.
